In a shocking incident from Odisha’s Kendrapara district, a 26-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly attempting to murder her 35-year-old lover by slitting his throat with a knife. The incident, which took place on Tuesday night, has sent shockwaves across the region.
The accused, identified as Kumari Laxmipriya Acharya, hails from Adhapati village in the Tirtol police station area of Jagatsinghpur district. She was arrested on Thursday and charged under Section 109 (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Love, Jealousy, and Betrayal
According to police, the victim, Satyajit Sarangi, also from Jagatsinghpur, had earlier been married to Laxmipriya’s cousin. After his wife’s death last year, he entered into a relationship with Laxmipriya. However, she was also reportedly romantically involved with another security guard at her workplace in Kaliapani mines, Jajpur.
Sarangi discovered the affair and objected to it, which allegedly led to frequent confrontations. Feeling “harassed,” Laxmipriya reportedly hatched a plan to kill him. On Tuesday night, she convinced him to take her on a motorcycle ride to Kendrapara. Near Hazari Bridge on National Highway 53, she asked him to stop, then slit his throat and fled the scene.
Victim Critical, Accused in Custody
Passersby rushed Sarangi to Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital, after which he was shifted to SCB Medical College, Cuttack. His condition remains critical.
The woman has been remanded to judicial custody after her bail plea was rejected by the local court.
