Dhurandhar didn’t just arrive in theatres, it roared in, shattered records and rewrote the rules of mainstream Hindi cinema. Even months after its release, the frenzy around the film refuses to die down. And if one voice continues to amplify the Dhurandhar phenomenon, it is filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, who now claims that the upcoming sequel will push boundaries even further.
Taking to X on Monday, Ram Gopal Varma made a dramatic statement about the sequel. He wrote that the “fireball” of the so-called South cinema invasion into Bollywood was “kicked back” by Dhurandhar, and that Dhurandhar 2 is now gearing up to strike harder. According to RGV, “If the first scared them, the second will terrify them,” a remark that has instantly reignited excitement around the project.
While the makers and cast have remained tight-lipped about details of the sequel, RGV’s post has created fresh buzz and speculation among fans.
‘A Threat to Formulaic Cinema’
This is not the first time Varma has praised Dhurandhar. Following the release of the first film, he described it as a “monstrous hit” that threatened the industry’s comfort zone. In an earlier post, he said such path-breaking films are often ignored by insiders who feel threatened by standards they cannot match.
About Dhurandhar
Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar has emerged as the defining box-office blockbuster of 2025. The film stars Ranveer Singh as an undercover agent, with Akshaye Khanna delivering a powerful performance as Rehman Dakait. The ensemble cast also includes Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan and Arjun Rampal.
Released on December 5, the film has crossed Rs 1100 crore globally, becoming the highest-grossing Indian film of the year.
With Dhurandhar 2 slated for a March 2026 release, expectations are soaring. And if Ram Gopal Varma’s words are any indication, audiences may be in for an even darker and more intense cinematic experience.
