Depressed By Sushant Singh Rajput’s Death Yet Another Minor Kills Herself
A 13-year old fan of Sushant Singh Rajput from Durg district of Chhattisgarh committed suicide on Thursday. The young girl from Bhilai studying in class 7 hanged herself to the ceiling of her home in Sector-7 of Bhilai town.
According to the Tribune, the station house officer of the area, Trinath Tripathi said, “A suicide note was recovered from the scene. In the note, the girl stated that she was taking the extreme step as she was upset about the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.” The father of the victim stated that his daughter was a big fan of the actor. She was very upset after Sushant's death. The girl was watching Sushant’s movie Chhichhore when her father left home to collect the rest of the family members from her grandparents.
A similar incident occurred in the Hapur locality of Meerut on June 20 when a 12-year-old boy killed himself. He too was upset over the suicide of Sushant. His family stated that the boy continuously watched the news related to the death of the actor on television. All his family members were at home when he committed suicide by hanging himself with a cloth in a room upstairs.
'If He Can Do It Why Can't I' Asked A Boy Committing Suicide
One more girl in the capital city of Andaman and Nicobar Islands committed suicide over Sushant Singh Rajput. The 15-year-old girl suffered from depression. She wrote a lot about the Kedarnath actor in her diary. It was obvious that she was very fond of Sushant. However, in this case, police did not find any suicide note. Similar to all these three youngsters, a 10th class student from Bareilly, UP also killed himself. More importantly, the content of his suicide note shocked everyone.
The fan of Sushant wrote, “If he can do it why can’t I.” Shockingly, it sort of hints that the actor’s death inspired this young boy to follow suit.
Has Sushant’s Death Triggered New Pattern Of Suicide Among Indian Youngsters?
The tragic death of the actor was a massive shocker for the entire nation. His untimely demise triggered a lot of debate on social media regarding nepotism and mental conditions. Fans continue to protest for justice to SSR demanding CBI inquiry. Apart from the above youngsters, a few others from the entertainment world also committed suicide. Soon after the actor’s death, an 18-year-old TikTok star killed herself followed by Kannada Star Susheel Gowda.
Undoubtedly COVID-19 crisis has driven people to desperation with many losing jobs and some disturbed due to isolation or no work. At the same time, Sushant killing himself may have made a strong impact on those vulnerable ones with a fragile mind.
According to a Counseling Psychologist and Psychotherapist, Charvi Jain, people connect themselves to the celebrities as they know a lot about them. Often during the time of adversities, people tend to connect with a particular character in the movie who faced a similar situation. Jain says, “Oh, they faced this particular life challenge so well.” So when they go, people who are fond of such celebrities feel a sense of loss.
According to Charvi, the death of Sushant Singh Rajput was a sort of big personal loss to youngsters. Sushant started from scratch and become immensely successful in a field where it is not easy to even survive for an outsider. That is how youngsters related themselves to him. And yes, in a way his suicide did encourage vulnerable people. Because they believed that if he could do it why can’t they?
