Kolkata: Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan is set to become the goodwill ambassador of the Republic of Korea (South Korea), a diplomat said here today.
 
"We had made an offer to Shahrukh Khan for goodwill ambassador and he had accepted it. Now, we are discussing about the place and date of a ceremony to formally announce it," Ambassador of Republic of Korea to India Joon-gyu Lee said here today at a Calcutta University-organised interactive session on India-Korea Relations: Past, Present and Future.
 
The popular Indian actor Shahrukh Khan is going to be appointed for the public diplomacy, Lee said.
 
He said Shahrukh Khan is well known in that country as his movies are gaining popularity in Korea like Rab ne Bana De Jode.
 
According to Lee, the agreement with the actor would be for one year initially but may be extended further.
 
He claimed there is no monetary involvement in this appointment.
 
Meanwhile, speaking about the bilateral trade Lee said there President was likely to visit by early next year to take forward the relations to a new height.
 
He said the bilateral trade of USD 19 billion will jump to USD 40 billion by 2015.
 
He also hoped that Odisha government will transfer the land to steel maker Posco so that the Korean company can begin construction.
 
"I hope the land transfer process will be complete by end of this year for USD 12 billion project," he said.
 
Odisha government is yet to transfer the remaining 1,000 acres to Posco out of total 2,700 acres.
