Following the poll debacle in 2024, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Sunday announced the restructuring of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) by dissolving it. Now all eyes are on who will take charge of the Odisha PCC.
Senior Congress leaders Bhakta Das and Mohammad Moquim are said to be in the race for the PCC president. Speculation is also rife over the name of former PCC president Jayadev Jena.
Today, the AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal informed that the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee has been dissolved following approval of the Congress President. Apart from the OPCC, the Congress President has approved the proposal for the complete dissolution of the OPCC, including the PCC president and its executive committee.
The current District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents will function as acting presidents till new district presidents are appointed.
Apart from this, the AICC has appointed Ram Chandra Kadam as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) of the party in Odisha.
Earlier, senior Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati was in the race for the CLP leader.
In his reaction, Bahinipati said, “It would have been more appropriate if the CLP name was announced yesterday. I congratulate our MP Saptagiri Ulaka and welcome Ram Chandra Kadam. It was high command’s decision.”
Ashok Das, who has been appointed as the deputy CLP leader, said, “The way Congress won 14 seats from 9 seats shows that our performance improved this time. We will raise the problems of Odisha and other issues before the government and take steps for the welfare of the people.”
On the new PCC president, Das said, “Everybody will abide by whatever decision AICC will take. Blaming PCC president Sarat Pattnayak alone for the poll debacle is not right as there were some problems on the part of other leaders as well. If BJP can form government from being in opposition, the Congress will also put up a good show.”
