In some countries, there are certain stigmas and cultural norms surrounding widow remarriage. While it is difficult for a widow/divorcee to remarry, remarrying a mother under such grounds is considered a huge taboo. However, one such story from Pakistan has gone viral in which a young man 'marries off' his mother, who lost her spouse long back and broke the stereotype.
Abdul Ahad, an 18-year-old Pakistani boy, shared a video on Instagram documenting emotional moments with his mother, culminating in her joyous 'nikah' (marriage ceremony). In the short video, the deep bond between son and mother is showcased, as the duo share heartfelt exchanges before transitioning to the celebration.

Abdul narrated in the video, "For the past 18 years, I tried my best to give her a special life according to my worth, as she sacrificed her whole life for us. But eventually, she deserved her own peaceful life, so as a son, I think I did the right thing. I supported my mom to take a second chance at love and life after 18 years.” (sic)
The video ends with visuals from the joyous moment of the nikah ceremony.
Further, Abdul also shared a photo from the ceremony with a heartfelt note reading, "It took me days to share the news of my mother’s marriage due to hesitation, but the love and support you all showed is truly overwhelming. I told Amma how you people appreciated and respected our decision, and we are both grateful. I may not be able to respond to every message, comment, and story, but please know that each one means the world to us.” (sic)
While Abdul's heartwarming gesture won the hearts of many, several misleading posts with false narratives stormed the internet drawing criticism. The misleading posts twisted the heartfelt story and claimed that the Pakistani boy 'married' his mother. Well, the fake narratives were condemned as the rumours overshadowed the message of love and progressiveness.
