Rashmika Mandanna’s ‘The Girlfriend’ has connections with Vijay Deverakonda’s ‘Arjun Reddy’?

After exploring the eerie, blood-soaked world of vampires in ‘Thamma’, national crush Rashmika Mandanna is now set to explore the emotional chaos of romance in her upcoming film ‘The Girlfriend’. 

The film’s trailer, released on Saturday, offers a glimpse into a story marked by affection, uncertainty, and heartbreak. Directed by Rahul Ravindran, the movie stars Rashmika alongside Dheekshith Shetty in lead roles.

In the trailer, Rashmika’s character, Bhooma, grapples with the complexities of her relationship, questioning not only her own feelings but also the meaning of being a “girlfriend” in a connection that has turned toxic.

The 2-minute 39-second trailer delves into themes of obsession, anxiety, and control, portraying how love can spiral into emotional turmoil.

The narrative and tone of ‘The Girlfriend’ have already sparked comparisons with Vijay Deverakonda’s ‘Arjun Reddy’, the cult Tollywood blockbuster that brought Vijay superstardom. 

Much like ‘Arjun Reddy’, Rashmika’s film appears to explore the darker and more toxic side of relationships. While ‘Arjun Reddy’ faced criticism for its misogynistic plot, it went on to become a cult classic, spawning a Hindi remake in ‘Kabir Singh’ that also became a commercial hit.

Fans are now hoping that ‘The Girlfriend’ will help Rashmika bounce back after the underwhelming response of ‘Thamma’ and achieve similar blockbuster success. With its intense emotional drama and relatable portrayal of modern relationships, the film is already generating significant buzz ahead of its release.
