The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday targeted the Biju Janata Dal (BJD)-led Odisha government by sharing some alarming numbers on the economy, crime, and education.

Taking to Twitter, Odisha BJP spokesperson, Anil Biswal shared a video in which he showed placards highlighting some statistics about Odisha.

He claimed that even after 23 years of uninterrupted rule of Naveen Patnaik as CM, Odisha has now the third lowest per capita income and the lowest farmers’ income in the country. The foreign direct investment (FDI) stands at 0.01 percent, Biswal stated.

As far as crime against women is concerned, Biswal alleged that while Odisha has registered the highest number of serious crimes against women, the conviction rate stands at a mere 5.7 percent- the lowest in the country. Apart from that the State has the highest number of Disproportionate Assets (DA) cases too, he claimed.

Moving to higher education, Biswal said, no Odisha government University features even among the top 100 varsities in the country.

Biswal also took a dig at the liquor sales in Odisha. Showing the figures, Biswal said while the State collected Rs 220 crore from liquor sales in the year 2000, the number grew to Rs 7740 crore in 2023.

In one of the cards, Biswal highlighted that more than 30 lakh people from Odisha have migrated to other states to earn their living.

While sharing the video, Biswal also claimed to have all the sources he used to get the data.

No comments have been received from the BJD in this regard.
