Producing romantic films a conscious decision
Dia joined hands with actor Zayed Khan and Sahil Sangha to form `Born Free Entertainment Pvt Ltd`. The first film of the company `Love, Breakups, Zindagi` stars Dia and Zayed in lead roles.
"There are several reasons that determine to make a movie. When you tell the story of heart it becomes a simpler story to tell because it is a film about performances about nuances…it is simpler to handle logistically. When you get into a big scale film, like if you do an action film the logistics are compelling and lot of things happen around it," Dia told PTI in an interview.
"I don`t know if we would have been able to ride as smoothly as on the film as we did for `Love, Breakups Zindagi`. It was a conscious decision to go with a film as logistically more doable as a first time producer. And it is always safer to go with something that is from heart," she said.
`Love Breakups Zindagi`, a romantic movie, is directed by Sahil, who is Dia`s beau and business partner.
When asked whether donning the double mantle of actor and producer in the flick was tough, Dia said, "having the advantage of being with the film for a long time I feel playing the actor`s role was not difficult. The lines were edged in my minds…not only mine but of everybody. I had the whole script by heart."
"But production is not an easy job. It is a monumental effort. It is all about keeping your team together, keeping them inspired taking them forward and allowing them the space to flourish. When you do actor`s or producer`s job there is certain level of preparedness that is required," Dia said.
Talking about the film the vivacious actress said "the story and characters are very relatable and (about) real people. There are lots of moments and situations in the film that are borrowed from real life or of people whom we have known".
On her role, Dia said, "I play Naina who is an idealist. She lives life by her heart and calls herself an emotional fool but there is nothing foolish about being emotional. Emotional people are those who think and live their life through heart. I had no difficulties understanding the character. It is most difficult to be yourself on screen and that is the only challenge I had."
`Love, Breakups, Zindagi`, slated for release on October 7, also stars Cyrus Sahukar, Tisca Chopra, Satyadeep Mishra, Vaibhav Talwar, Auritra Ghosh and Umang in principal roles.
