‘Phas Gaya Re Obama’ director to pen another satire
'Phas Gaya Re Obama' revolved around global recession and how it had an impact on the lives of people, from an America-based businessman to underworld gangsters in India.
"I am trying to develop a script. It is in the genre of satire, humour and irony. It is too soon to talk about it. We will talk about it after 'Jolly LLB' is over. I intend to start writing it after I am done with the release of 'Jolly LLB' in March," Kapoor told PTI without elaborating on the subject.
'Jolly LLB', to release on March 15, is a satire on the Indian judiciary system. The film will see Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani playing lawyers.
"In 'Jolly LLB' we try to show what happens in a real court. People have seen court rooms and cases in films earlier but we have shown the real side, something very different and real," Kapoor said.
'Phas Gaya Re Obama' came in 2010 and his next is coming almost after three years.
Quiz him on the gap and he says, "I do all things on my own from writing the story, to screenplay and dialogues, so it takes time. When I am done with the script I go ahead with casting. I like to do a lot of reading sessions with my actors… I like to spend more time on pre-production. So one and half to two years is ok on a project."
'Jolly LLB' follows the story of a struggling lawyer named Jolly (Arshad Warsi) who wants to make it big in life like his idol (Boman Irani). And what happens when Boman and Arshad are pitted against each other for a case makes for the crux of the film.
"Before 'Phas Gaya Re Obama' it was impossible even to enter the office and introduce yourself as a director as people ask what you have done. But after 'Phas Gaya Re Obama' and its response, things became easy as people had respect for the film," Kapoor said.
"The industry is like that, once you have proved yourself people are willing to listen to you," he said.
'Jolly LLB' will see Arshad in the title role opposite Amrita Rao.
