Only Indian industry can stand up to Hwood: Richa
Richa, who had made her debut with Dibakar Banerjee`s critically acclaimed film `Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!`, had been to the Cannes Film Festival recently as `Gangs of Wasseypur` was shown there.
"If you go to Europe, there cinema is suffering, Japan and China…everywhere cinema has taken a huge hit because of Hollywood. And Hollywood is America`s largest export to the world…I feel very proud to be part of the (film) industry which has the guts to make big budget and different kind of films, expensive films…we are in good place," Richa told PTI.
"I think we are the only industry in the world, which has guts to stand up in front of Hollywood. Like if `Avengers` (American superhero film) and `Rowdy Rathore` come together for a release, then also there is no comparison. `Rowdy Rathore` will still do well," she said.
Commenting on the name `Bollywood`, she said, "What is Bollywood. When we go to LA we see a board? Hollywood…that is a place. We are taking it from there and calling it Bollywood. But I think Bollywood is an imaginary landscape…we are working in Hindi film industry. But I don`t think we should derive a name just because there is Hollywood."
"What if tomorrow I do a Bengali, Tamil or Marathi film?…I think `Indian film actress` is enough (to describe). But I don`t mean to challenge Bollywood, I love it," she said.
Post-Cannes, Richa must be thanking her stars as she got two international offers. "I have two cross-over film offers, thanks to Cannes Films Festival, as I got it there. One of the films is based out of Berlin. Other is Indo-French and talks are still on. In that film, there is nudity and I have some issues with it. I want to read the script properly and then decide. Right now, I am filming `Tamanchey` with Nikhil Dwivedi," she concluded.
