What do you call someone who rules over the world at a mere age of 18? Sushmita Sen became the first Indian woman to win the Miss Universe title when she was 18 years old. Sushmita has always been fit and beautiful, with brown eyes and a slim build. Never afraid of competition

In 1994, 25 contestants withdrew from the Miss India pageant. Why? When it was revealed that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan would be competing. So? Because she was already popular at the time. Sushmita, on the other hand, not only competed but also defeated Aishwariya and won the title.

Single mother to two adopted kids

Sen adopted a newborn girl when she was only 24 years old and unmarried, and she quickly devoted herself to her. Ten years later, she adopted another young lady. Renee and Alisah grow into confident, self-sufficient young women, just like their lovely mother. Sen previously stated in an interview that, while many people saw her adoption as a charitable act, it was actually a matter of self-preservation for her.

A true fighter

Career highs and lows can be dealt with, but what happens when you are confronted with a major health issue over which you have no control? Sen was diagnosed with Addison's disease, an autoimmune disease, in 2014. Her default feelings became exhaustion, irritability, and anger, and the steroids' side effects had no effect on this. As a fighter, the former Miss Universe used nunchaku workouts and guided meditation to help her body heal. Sen has been free of the illness and medications since 2019 as a result of the efforts.

The strongest backbone for women out there

Sen, an independent woman in her own right, is always vocal about her support for women's rights issues such as closing the gender wage gap and educating girls. For her contributions to social welfare and women's empowerment, the actor was recently honoured with the prestigious Champions of Change Award 2020. Sen announced to her Instagram followers that she had won the prize on behalf of the nation's strongest backbone: women.
