The highly anticipated prequel to the 2023 international spy thriller Citadel, Citadel: Honey Bunny, starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Varun Dhawan, has finally begun streaming.

This action-packed series revolves around Varun Dhawan as Rahi Gambhir, also known as Agent Bunny, and Samantha as Agent Honey, charting their journey through action, espionage, and betrayal. Created by acclaimed director duo Raj & DK, known for The Family Man and Farzi, Citadel: Honey Bunny serves as a prequel to the Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas-led Citadel, created by the Russo brothers.

In episode five, Honey’s world is turned upside down when she discovers that the agency she once trusted isn’t what it claims to be, forcing her to make a drastic decision that risks everyone’s lives. Bunny, meanwhile, plots to save Honey and their daughter by stopping her from repeating past mistakes. Eventually, Honey and Bunny join forces to take down their enemy.

In episode six, Bunny finally meets his daughter, Nadia. Honey and Bunny team up to defeat both Vishwa and Zooni, who have been aiding him within Citadel, and they destroy Armada, the source of all their troubles. However, KD (played by Saqib Saleem) takes matters into his own hands after Vishwa orders him to abandon Rahi (aka Bunny), leading to a battle that tests their resilience and leaves the future uncertain. The series ends on a cliffhanger, leaving audiences wondering if Varun’s character escapes to reunite with Honey and Nadia or is captured by Foundation operatives.

Overall, Samantha shines as the star of the series, while Varun Dhawan impresses as the fiercely loyal yet conflicted Bunny. Both actors pull off slick stunts with ease. Kay Kay Menon delivers an outstanding performance as a manipulative spy, and child actor Kashvi Majmundar, portraying young Nadia, impresses with her portrayal of a brave, fearless, and sharp girl, setting the stage for Priyanka’s lead role in the franchise.

All in all, the series has its ups and downs. If you’re not watching carefully, the frequent time jumps between the 1990s and 2000s can be confusing. However, the action sequences and strong performances make up for the show’s pacing issues.
