Mala Sen, writer of Bandit Queen, no more

Mumbai: Mala Sen, writer of Shekhar Kapur`s critically acclaimed film `Bandit Queen`, died of cancer at the Tata Memorial Hospital here. She was 64.

Sen was diagnosed with cancer some months ago and came to India from London for treatment at the Tata Memorial Hospital here. She died on Sunday morning, hospital sources said.

Sen was mostly known for her collaboration with filmmaker Kapur on `Bandit Queen` (1994), the film based on the life of Phoolan Devi, a dacoit-turned-politician."RIP Mala Sen, a life spent in search of creative self expression, writer tht led me 2 Bandit Queen (sic)," Kapur said on twitter.
