A fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal around July 24, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted on Friday.

Several parts of Odisha may experience significant rainfall under the influence of the fresh low-pressure area.

As per the prediction by IMD, the system is expected to develop due to upper air cyclonic circulation, enhancing moisture inflow and cloud formation over the region. Later, it may intensify further and turn into a depression. The forecasted system is likely to move west-northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal, north Odisha, and adjoining Jharkhand, and south Chhattisgarh during the subsequent 2-3 days. Weather officials are closely monitoring the situation for further developments.

Under the influence of the system, several parts of Odisha, especially the coastal and northern regions, may receive significant rainfall. The amount of rainfall is likely to increase from July 23, and it may continue for three to four days.

This development comes amid a fluctuating monsoon pattern, with intermittent dry spells and localised showers. The rain may bring relief from the ongoing humid conditions across the state.

The weather office has issued a yellow warning for 22 districts. As per the forecast, heavy rainfall is likely over the western, southern, and northern regions of Odisha.
