Jaa Chudail made Vir realise power of Hindi film songs
Mumbai: Standup comedian-turned-actor Vir Das, whose solo `Jaa Chudail` in `Delhi Belly` is making waves, says the number has made him realise the power of Hindi film songs.
"Till now I did not realise the power that Hindi film songs wield. I never understood what a solo song can do for you as an actor. But with this song I have understood. When I heard people calling me `Chudail` I was disturbed and flattered at the same time," Vir told PTI in an interview.
"Shooting solo for a Bollywood song was a big high for me and a great deal of fun. It was a crazy dance number," he said.
`Jaa chudail`, choreographed by Farah Khan, sees Vir dressed in a latex outfit grooving to dance moves inspired by the 80`s look of actor Mithun Chakraborty and singer Elvis Presley.
"The rehearsals were pretty intense since I was a newcomer. When I got to know that Farah is choreographing the song I was terrified. The only thought I had in mind was to meet her standards," Vir said.
Interestingly, Vir will not be seen tickling the funny bone in the film. He plays Arup, a graphic designer working with an ad agency who gets dumped by his girlfriend, harassed by his boss and to make matters worse, has to shave of his curly mop of hair.
"I play a graphic designer who is very frustrated and angry person. He is broken romantically and emotionally as his girlfriend dumps him and his boss harasses him. All horrible things happen to him," the 32-year-old actor said.
"I have played a character who is happy, witty and active but this was different. I wanted to try other things and hence did it," he added.
Produced by Aamir Khan Productions and directed by Abhinay Deo `Delhi Belly` is an adult comedy, starring Imran Khan, Vir, Kunal Roy Kapur, and Shehnaz Treasurywala. The film releases on July 1.
