Mumbai: Veteran actor Pankaj Kapoor, who is looking forward to the release of his maiden Bollywood directorial `Mausam`, says he made the film specifically for his son Shahid.

“I have directed for television for about five years. So there was a desire to direct a film. I have been writing for a long time. So here came a moment where we decided to go with this film, with this particular subject, which was specifically written keeping Shahid in mind,” said Pankaj.

“The film was to be made for Shahid. I thought I had to write a film for him,” he added.

`Mausam` is a love story starring Shahid and Sonam Kapoor in the lead roles.

“I was specific that the film is to be made with him (Shahid). It is not like I had written the script and I decided to cast him. I had a lot of other scripts and we pondered over whether he should be part of them or a new one should be written for him. It was decided that a fresh script would be written. That is how `Mausam` happened,” said Pankaj.

The film has Shahid essaying the role of an air force officer and Sonam plays his love interest.

“Like every father I also want my son to go ahead and excel in life. Shahid has proved himself and has been doing so. His acting ability, cinematic knowledge will come in front of all in the near future. I wish all the success for him,” said the National award winning actor.

About casting Sonam, Pankaj said, “While writing this film I had no particular girl in my mind. After finishing the script I started thinking who could be cast. Sonam was the first one to be approached for the role.”

The film is slated to release on September 16.
