Throwing caution to the wind, the corporator of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation’s ward no-29 on Wednesday evening allegedly danced while waving a gun during a Ganesh idol immersion procession.
A purported video of corporator Arup Narayan Rout alias Jeevan Rout dancing with a gun is fast circulating on social media.
As per reports, the immersion procession of a Ganesh idol was taken out in the Unit IX area. During the procession, corporator Rout was seen dancing while brandishing a gun.

The incident triggered concerns as it is the festive season and the likelihood of a spurt in criminal activities is high.
However, when contacted, Rout ruled out that he did not carry a gun. “It was a wooden plank in the shape of a gun,” he clarified.
“Yesterday, an immersion procession was being taken out. In the crowd, some followers passed on that gun-shaped wooden plank. Had I figured out its shape, I would have never held it. My conspirators are behind in making the video viral,” he said.
