Kolkata: In a treat for music lovers in the UK, internationally acclaimed singer Shankar Mahadevan will team up with sitarist Purbayan Chatterjee at Alchemy, Southbank Centre`s festival exploring the richness, contrasts and connections between the UK, India and South Asian culture.

"Feeling very happy to be part of the festival. Remember we had played in New Jersey first. It will have a lot of western elements and I am looking for the occasion," Mahadevan said at a press meet, jointly addressed with Purbayan, here on Wednesday night.

On forthcoming films he was associated with, the music composer of `Don 2` and `Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara` said "There is `Bhag Milkha Bhag`, directed by Rakeysh Omparkash Mehra, which I found very inspiring to be part of."

Mahadevan, who had earned his first National Film Award for his song in `Kandukondain Kandukondain` collaborating with A R Rahman as a playback singer, said he was ready to work in Bengali films.

"But none of your directors have approached me," said Mahadevan, who teamed up with friends Ehsaan and Loy to form a successful musical team in Bollywood known as Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.

The Alchemy festival, to be held from April 12-22, will also encompass contemporary and traditional music and dance, debate, literature, film, craft and fashion. "It`s an aesthetic connect between us that brings us together time and again. Music lovers generally long for such melange of unique and eclectic music," said Purbayan Chatterjee who has several overseas events on the anvil.
