A Familiar Collaboration Rekindled!

But the quiet mountain break may soon turn into a creative meeting ground. Sunny’s longtime collaborator, director Rajkumar Santoshi, is reportedly travelling to Manali with something exciting in hand - the script for Ghatak 2.

The project aims to revisit the gritty legacy of their 1996 action drama Ghatak, a film still remembered for its intensity and cult dialogues.

The Big Script Narration

According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, Santoshi believes he has found the right story to revive the franchise and personally wants to pitch it to Sunny.

A source told the portal, “Rajkumar Santoshi has cracked an idea which he feels is apt to be made as Ghatak 2. He informed Sunny Deol about it. Sunny got interested in the pitch and asked Mr Santoshi to join him in Manali. Accordingly, the filmmaker left for the Himalayan hill station. He’s expected to meet the actor today, January 31, and narrate the script.”

The narration is expected to determine whether the sequel moves forward or remains just an idea.

No Sequel for the Sake of Nostalgia!

Despite the current sequel fever in Bollywood, Sunny isn’t rushing into anything. For him, legacy matters more than trends.

The source continued, “It now remains to be seen what Sunny feels about the subject. If it excites him, they will take it forward, based on the dates and other factors. Sunny is clear that just because Gadar 2 (2023) and Border 2 were blockbusters, he’ll not be signing a sequel of any of his past classics and cash in on the trend. He feels that this would amount to cheating the audience. Mr Santoshi also thinks on the same lines.”

Quality over nostalgia appears to be the guiding rule.

A Hit-Making Duo’s Legacy

Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi share a history of impactful cinema. Their earlier collaborations - Ghayal, Damini, and Ghatak - weren’t just box office successes but films that shaped 90s Bollywood storytelling. The duo is already reuniting for Lahore 1947, produced by Aamir Khan.
