Mumbai: Actor Emraan Hashmi, who had been dabbling with the off-beat side of cinema for a while, is back doing a masala film which will see him in his notorious avatar.

The 35-year-old actor feels it is necessary to strike a balance between niche and mainstream films, which have all the commercial elements like romance, drama, action, music etc.

Emraan will be next seen in 'Raja Natwarlal' with Pakistani actress Humaima Malick.

"My wife doesn't like me doing masala films but it is (about) getting food to the table. Like this film 'Raja Natwarlal', has kissing scenes and I have to do it for bread and butter," Emraan told reporters here at the trailer launch of his upcoming film.

Last year, Emraan experimented with films like 'Ek Thi Daayan' and 'Ghanchakkar' which failed to create magic at the box office.

"I do not regret doing these films. I liked doing 'Ek Thi Daayan' and 'Ghanchakkar' it gave me an opportunity to stretch myself as an actor. I will be self destructive. I will continue to do both (masala and niche) kind of films. It is important for an actor to find balance between the two kind of films," Emraan said.

"I think box office should not be the only way to measure success but the trade looks at it that way. There are some films that help you stretch," he said.

Emraan is happy that his film 'Raja Natwarlal' has got U/A certificate, which he thinks is miraculous. And he would like to show this film to his son.

"With the kind of things that I do on screen the image, reputation precedes. But I am pretty harmless. I am engrossed in my work," Emraan said.

The title of the film reminds one of megastar Amitabh Bachchan's 'Natwarlal" but Emraan makes it clear that his film has nothing to do with it.
