The actor revealed that the film deals with a landmark case that once divided the country sharply along ideological lines, making it crucial for him to fully trust the intent of the storytelling before saying yes.

A Subject That Once Divided the Nation

Speaking about the film, Emraan explained that Haq revisits an issue that had split public opinion into two strong camps. One side stood firmly with religion and personal faith, while the other advocated constitutional and secular rights.

Given the emotional and political weight of the subject, Emraan said it was important for him to be absolutely sure that the film approached this divide responsibly. The sensitivity of the topic made him cautious, as he did not want to be part of a narrative that leaned toward extremism or bias.

Why Neutrality Was the Deciding Factor

Emraan shared that his biggest concern was understanding the director and writer’s point of view. He wanted to be convinced that the film was balanced, unbiased, and neutral in its treatment. According to him, once he realised that the makers had handled the subject with honesty and restraint, his decision became clear. Emraan firmly stated that Haq presents its arguments without pushing an agenda, allowing viewers to engage with the issue thoughtfully rather than emotionally.

A Liberal Muslim Perspective That Stands Out

One aspect that deeply resonated with Emraan was the way the film presents a Muslim perspective. He described it as being told from the point of view of a liberal Muslim—neither defensive nor aggressive. This, he believes, is what makes Haq powerful and relevant in today’s climate, where conversations around religion and rights often become polarised. While he admitted that it is difficult to predict whether the film will change audience opinions, he is confident viewers will recognise its balanced approach.

Praising the team behind the film, Emraan called Haq a “very, very good film” and made a special appeal to the Muslim community to watch it. He added that while he usually approaches scripts purely as an actor, Haq stood out because it offered him a perspective he had rarely seen on screen—making the project personally meaningful as well as professionally significant.
