From a national-level badminton player to model, actor and then producer, Deepika Padukone nailed every damn task she took up. Deepika made her acting debut in 2006 in Kannada film, Aishwarya. She entered Bollywood from Om Shanti Om in 2007 opposite Shah Rukh Khan.

After that, she has given a number of commendable performance in films like- Cocktail, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Piku, Padmaavat, Bajirao Mastani, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela and several others. As the Bollywood Diva turns a year old today, let’s have a look at some of the lesser known facts about her:

Deepika was born on January 5, 1986. But a few people know that she was born in Copenhagen, Denmark.

She was a national-level badminton player till 16 years of age and also stayed in third position for a brief period.

Deepika's first appearance in Bollywood was in 2006 through the music video of Himesh Reshammiya's 'Naam Hai Tera'.

Deepika won Filmfare Awards for Best Female Debut for her acting in Om Shanti Om. However, many do not know that her voice was dubbed in the movie- reason, her Konkani accent while speaking Hindi.

There was a time when Deepika was in depression after her break up with Ranbir Kapoor and she is the first actress in Bollywood who openly spoke about depression. Deepika accepted that she struggled through panic attacks, cried without any reason and even wanted to commit suicide.

Deepika has been vocal about issues such as feminism, mental health, and depression, and is the founder of ‘The Live Love Laugh Foundation’, which works to create awareness on mental health.

Deepika Padukone learned Jujutsu, a Japanese martial art, for the movie 'Chandni Chowk to China' opposite Akshay Kumar and performed the stunts herself.

Though a fitness freak, the Cocktail actress loves South Indian cuisine and Rasam and rice are her favourite dishes. She loves to eat chocolates and take it before going to sleep every.

Deepika wanted to work with Yash Chopra. Reports said, she was offered the role of Katrina Kaif in the film 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan'. However, she could not work in the movie for some reasons and as Chopra is no more, her wish will remain unfulfilled forever.

Deepika has been never paired with Salman Khan. If reports are to be believe, it is her proximity with Shah Rukh Khan that she rejected three films opposite Bhaijaan. However, recently during an appearance in ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’, Deepika said that she did not get a good script to work with Salman.

The actress is currently busy with the promotion of 'Chhapaak'. She will reportedly celebrate her 34th birthday day today with the acid attack survivors in Lucknow.
