In view of the worsening flood situation caused by the swelling Subarnarekha River, the Balasore district administration has taken a decisive step to ensure round-the-clock response and effective disaster management. District Collector has cancelled all leaves sanctioned to government employees with immediate effect.

The decision comes as several blocks of the district, including Bhogarai, Baliapal, and Jaleswar, are facing severe flood-like conditions due to continuous heavy rainfall in the upper catchment and the release of excess water from the Galudih barrage in neighbouring Jharkhand.

Taking serious note of the unfolding crisis, the Collector has directed all government officials currently on leave to report back to duty without delay. A formal order has been issued, mandating immediate resumption of work by the concerned staff, especially those involved in relief, rescue, and essential services.

Further, a strict directive has been issued prohibiting government officers from leaving their headquarters under any circumstances. The administration emphasized that the presence of all departmental officers at their respective headquarters is essential for effective coordination and timely response in the event of any emergency.

The Collector’s office has also instructed line departments such as the Revenue, Health, Water Resources, and Panchayati Raj departments to remain in a state of readiness, with disaster response teams already being mobilized in vulnerable areas.

With floodwaters entering several villages and inundating roads, farmland, and houses, the administration is focusing on relief operations, evacuation preparedness, and strengthening river embankments. The district continues to remain on high alert as the water level of the Subarnarekha is flowing above the danger mark.

The move to cancel government employee leave is being seen as a proactive step to bolster the district’s emergency response and ensure uninterrupted public service during this critical period.
