Border 2 is steadily building anticipation ahead of its theatrical release on January 23. The sequel to the 1997 war classic brings together Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, promising a powerful revival of patriotic fervour on the big screen.

The newly released tracks, ‘Ghar Kab Aaoge’ and ‘Jaate Hue Lamhon’, have struck a chord with listeners. While they carry contemporary musical finesse, their classic soul evokes nostalgia, amplifying emotional connect and excitement among audiences.

Recreated Classics Trigger Online Chatter

Originally composed by Anu Malik, the songs have been re-composed by Mithoon for Border 2. This creative choice has sparked debate on social media, prompting conversations around originality, legacy and reinterpretation.

Anu Malik Finally Breaks His Silence

Addressing the discussion in an interview with IANS, Anu Malik said, "Sandese Aate Hain jo gana hai ap jo Border bolte hain...aab jab Border 2 ban rahi hai, toh logon ne kaha ki Sandese Aate Hains ke bagyer ban nahi sakti. Toh koi aur compose kar raha hai, lekin gana to mera jayega hi jayega."

He further added, "Kyun ki kehte hain Border is incomplete without 'Sandese Aate Hai' and 'Ae Jaate Hue Lamhon'. And, 'Hindustan...Hindustan...' ye bhi mera hi gana hai. Logon ko patta nahi hai kyun ki wo background mein bajta hai kisi aur ka naam lete hain par gana maine hi compose kiya tha."

The Creative Forces Behind Border’s Legacy

Recalling the team that shaped Border and its musical legacy, Malik shared, "Toh yeh lajwab... Javed sahab ne jo gane like hain, aur jo JP Dutta sahab ne mujhe jo inspire kiya tha, unke father OP Dutta sahab bhi the...tab jake Border bani, Refugee bani, LOC Kargil bani, Umrao Jaan bani, Paltan bani, aise log the jo inspire karte hain."

Praising the collaborators, he added, "Javed sahab ki writing, mera music, Sonu Nigam ne kya gaana gaya tha, Sandese Aate Hain, aur Roop Kumar Rathod ne kya gaya tha Ae Jaate Hue Lamhon… Toh ye lajawab log hain, lajawab singers hain, lajawab logon ne kaam kiye hai humane saath."

Familiar Voices, Renewed Soundscape 

The recreated ‘Ghar Kab Aaoge’ retains Sonu Nigam’s vocals, joined by Arijit Singh, Diljit Dosanjh and Vishal Mishra. While much of the original composition remains intact, new lyrics by Manoj Muntashir and Mithoon’s arrangement add a contemporary layer.

The third track, ‘Jaate Hue Lamhon’, stays true to its original lyrics and melody. Vishal Mishra sings alongside Roop Kumar Rathod, with Mithoon reworking the musical arrangement.
