Barfi would not have been possible without Ranbir: Basu

Mumbai: Director Anurag Basu who is looking forward to the release of his forthcoming film `Barfi`, says, the movie would not have been made had Ranbir Kapoor not agreed to be a part of it.

The romantic comedy directed by Anurag Basu, revolves around a boy named Murphy (Ranbir), whom everyone calls Barfi. He is someone who is always ready with a prank, he is quite the charmer even though he can neither speak nor listen. "If Ranbir wouldn`t have done this movie, I wouldn`t have made it. I always had Ranbir in my mind for this role. Even on the day when I was writing the 10th page of the script," Basu said in a statement here.

Ranbir essays the role of a deaf and mute person and he excels with his intricate gestures and body language, which reminds one of Mr Beans and Charlie Chaplin. "Ranbir as a person is very spontaneous and naughty. His aura is such that I remember on the last day of shoot, Ranbir was bidding good bye to all by hugging them. I saw how everyone was feeling that moment….they were really feeling sad," Basu said.

"I don`t know if it was RK or `Barfi` who created that feeling in all," he said. Releasing on September 14, `Barfi` also stars Priyanka Chopra, who plays an autistic character in the film besides Tollywood actress Ileana D`Cruz.
