Bhubaneswar: Aggrieved members of the Odisha Contract Teachers’ Association (OCTA) on Tuesday staged a demonstration in front of the State Assembly demanding re-engagement of dismissed teachers.
OCTA sources said the teachers have decided to go on a hunger strike from tomorrow as the government is showing an apathetic attitude towards them.
“This time, we will continue our protest till the government listens to us and sorts out the matter as we don't believe its assurances any more,” said an agitating teacher.
It may be recalled here that the teachers’ body had decided to call off their stir till the second week of December following the government’s assurance to re-engage the retrenched contractual teachers.
But, the State government has failed to come out with any solution, which has irked the teachers again.
Pradipta Pradhan, president of OCTA, had said on yesterday; “We are not going to hold any talks with the government as we do not believe in its assurances anymore and would boycott the forthcoming HSC examination. We will sit on a hunger strike from Wednesday,”.
The agitating teachers had gheraoed all District Education Offices (DEOs) across the State on Monday for the same reason.
Notably, the state government had cancelled appointment of nearly 4, 000 contractual teachers’ appointed after June 11 this year following High Court orders . Th sacked contractual teachers have been on a stir since then demanding their reinstatement.
