London: Oscar-winning actress and activist Angelina Jolie is set to become a visiting professor at the London School of Economics.

Jolie is among four high-profile contributors to a year-long masters programme on Women, Peace and Security.

She will deliver guest lectures and take part in expert workshops and other events, as well as continue research, reports mirror.co.uk.

Jolie, who is a special envoy for the UN's refugee agency, said: "I am very encouraged by the creation of this master’s programme".

"I hope other academic institutions will follow this example, as it is vital that we broaden the discussion on how to advance women’s rights and end impunity for crimes that disproportionately affect women, such as sexual violence in conflict," she added.

She is looking forward to teaching and to learning from the students as "well as to sharing my own experiences of working alongside governments and the United Nations".

The course will start this autumn and will also cover courses including 'Gender and Militarisation' and 'Gender and Human Rights'.

The other visiting professors are William Hague, Madeleine Rees and Jane Connors.
