On 16th December 1971, India won the war against Pakistan which also led to the formation of a new country-Bangladesh. Every year the country celebrates it as Vijay Diwas. Today is the 50th anniversary of this Indian win and hence 1971 Vijay Diwas 2020 is more special.
Several celebrities took to social media to share their thoughts to mark this occasion. Former opening batsman Virender Sehwag who is quite active on Twitter wrote, "49 yrs ago, the Pakistan Eastern Command surrendered all Pakistan Armed Forces with 92,000 soldiers to Lt. Gen Jagjit Singh Aurora, General Officer Commanding in Chief of Indian and Bangladesh forces. All our children should learn about the incredible valor of our army."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also recalled the valor of Indian soldiers on the occasion of 1971 Vijay Diwas. He penned, "On Vijay Diwas we recall the unwavering courage of our armed forces that resulted in a decisive victory for our nation in the 1971 war. On this special Vijay Diwas, had the honor of lighting the ‘Swarnim Vijay Mashaal’ at the National War Memorial."

Twitter users trended #surrendered from the start of the morning to celebrate India's win over Pakistan 50 years ago. Twitter family remembered the contribution of soldiers as well as the strong decision-making of then Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi.
