Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: In what may be a shock to the Group C and Group D employees of the central varsities, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a notice asking all central universities not to pay any bonus to the employees and recover all bonuses that has been paid to them in the last two years.

Last week, UGC sent a notice to the Registrars of all central universities regarding the decision.

The letter issued by UGC stated that because the Centre has not extended the orders for the grant of non-productivity linked bonus (ad hoc bonus) to autonomous bodies, the varsities are requested not to make payment of bonuses to their employees, till it is extended by the Government of India for the autonomous bodies.

Adding to the alleged discrimination, it further stated,” If the university has already paid the bonus to their employees for the financial year 2015-16 and 2016-17, it must make the recoveries from the concerned employees.”

Employees under categories C and D include office attendants, field attendants, security guards and the Safai karmacharis.
