NEET Exam 2019: Shocking Revelation, Students ‘Commit Suicide’
Tamil Nadu: Has the NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test) deprived rural and poor students? Such a shocking allegation surfaced after DMK and Rajya Sabha member Tiruchi Siva today urged the Centre for early assent of the President of India to the two bills passed by the Tamil Nadu Assembly seeking an exemption of the State from NEET test. He said NEET exam for admission to medical and dental colleges has not achieved the ‘desired results’.
Siva raised the issue during Zero Hour and alleged that those students who opted for coaching cleared the exam while the poor students with high scoring percentage in 12th class who could not afford the expensive coaching classes did not clear the exam.
“Of the 13 lakh students who appeared in the NEET exam, only six lakh managed to clear the exam. Students who cleared the exam spent about Rs 2 lakh each on coaching. And the coaching centres across the country earned Rs 12 lakh crore,” he alleged.
Those who did not take coaching did not clear the exam, he added.
Not only this, the member further alleged that in Tamil Nadu around five students have committed suicide over this issue.
Siva further said the Tamil Nadu assembly passed two bills to exempt the state from NEET exam. However, the bills were lying with the Centre and urged the government to ensure immediate assent of the President.
