CBSE Class 10, 12 Practical Exams: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has proposed to conduct practical examinations of Class 10 and Class 12 at external centers, just like theory examinations from next academic session i.e. 2020.

Currently, the Board is conducting practical examinations for both Class 10 and Class 12 students at their own schools. But from next year, the students may have to visit external centres for both theory and practical exams.

However, several CBSE affiliated schools have raised concerns on the Board’s decision.

In this regard, the management of some CBSE schools in Kerala too expressed their concerns over the change in the examination system and submitted a memorandum to CBSE authorities last Thursday.

“With regard to the reforms of the Central Board of Secondary Education, we are quite appreciative of it in general. But a recent proposal by the board to conduct practical examination away from one's school is quite appalling,” read the memorandum.

While stating that the 'lab examination' is at present conducted in one's own institution, the CBSE schools pointed out that students will be put through ‘untold misery and difficulties’ if the lab examination venue is changed from the one which is familiar to them.

Further, the arrangement of chemicals, equipment, brand of equipment, etc. will be quite different from the one which the students are used to in their school laboratories.

“It is pertinent that the examination is now conducted by external examiners and thus its sanctity and secrecy is maintained,” The Times of India reported citing the CBSE schools.

The schools also advised the CBSE authorities to deploy more invigilators instead of changing examination centre to avoid irregularities and malpractices.
