It is the imported leaders that are resigning from the party like rats leaving a sinking ship, said BJD leader Sambit Routray on Friday after former Salepur MLA Prakash Behera quit the party.

“BJD had fielded Prakash Behera from Salepur in the 2024 general elections. Some wrong people had taken this wrong decision. Then we strongly opposed the decision because we knew something like what is going on these days would happen. We knew all along that the chicken-hearted ones would jump from the boat at the time of danger.  Those who have been with Naveen Patnaik are still remaining loyal to the party but the imported leaders are leaving it,” said Routray.

“The top leaders had then taken the decisions considering the situation prevailing then. But, people as well as we didn’t find acceptable those decisions. The result is they are leaving the party,” he said.

Those who had the decision-making powers made such wrong decisions. They not only imported leaders from other parties but also created groupism and made some wrong decisions. By orchestrating competitions among leaders, they have brought the party to the present situation; he said adding he is not afraid to speak the truth.

When contacted, Prakash Behera said, “Sambit babu should take care of his Assembly constituency and his party’s situation there. He himself admitted that some leaders of his party had made wrong decisions. Now, he should take care of his party. The party had invited me because of its own interest. He should give up his childish attitude. He himself said many things that I intended to say.”

Notably, former Salepur MLA Prakash Chandra Behera had on Thursday resigned from the primary membership of the BJD.
