New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: After 22 days of protest by the SSC CGL job aspirants in front of the Staff Selection Commission’s (SSC) office in New Delhi, the demand of the students to have a CBI inquiry into the alleged CGL 2017 Tier II exam paper leak has been met.
The Centre has informed the Supreme Court on Tuesday that CBI has started a preliminary enquiry on the allegations of SSC Combined Graduate Level (CGL) 2017 Tier II paper leak.
As per reports, the apex court took note of the submission of the Center and disposed off the PIL filed by Advocate M L Sharma seeking CBI inquiry on the allegations of paper leak.
The SC had on March 12 sought respond of the Centre on the PIL seeking investigation on the alleged paper leak of the CGL 2017 Tier II examination held on February 17 and 21.
While some students seemed happy after the announcement of CBI inquiry, some were of the opinion that the inquiry must be done into the entire exams, including MTS, CHSL, CGL and CPO, conducted by the SSC, in a time-bound period and it should not be lingered.
“We believe that the CBI inquiry will expose all those involved in the leak. However, it needs to be completed within a specific period as it’s a matter of future of lakhs of students,” said a CGL job aspirant.
Another SSC job aspirant said, “It’s time the SSC should put a stay on all the upcoming exams as it will lead to confusion and create more problems. The SSC CGL tier 3 descriptive paper is announced to be conducted in May. So, to avoid any untoward problem for the students, CBI should complete the investigation by that month.”
With CBI starting investigation into the alleged leak, parents also believe that the truth will prevail soon and those exams will be re-conducted in a fair manner.
The inquiry needs to be completed soon as lingering or delaying it will lead to more agitation by the students. Protest by CGL job aspirants in such manner is first of its kind in the country and if the government will not take it seriously, it is bound to feel the heat, believe experts.
SSC had earlier re-conducted the SSC CGL Tier 2 exam- for the exam held on February 21, 2018- at as many as '174 venues in 61 cities for 35,146 candidates. While the average attendance in Paper-I was 92.81%, Paper-II recorded 72.05% attendance.
