In a shocking incident, parents of a boy in Andhra Pradesh died by suicide after their son allegedly fell in love with a transgender.
The middle-aged couple killed themselves by consuming pesticides after being unable to bear the relationship and societal shame.
The shocking incident has been reported from SBI colony at Nandayal district headquarters in Andhra Pradesh. The deceased have been identified as Subba Rayudu and Saraswati.
According to police, Subba and Saraswati had only one son Sunil. They struggled day and night and made him study B. Tech so that he could become an engineer. However, Sunil turned into an auto-rickshaw driver after completing his B. Tech.
Meanwhile, he fell in love with a transgender Smitha and was adamant about marrying her. Despite repeated requests by his parents to find a girl, Sunil was keen on marrying the transgender. Later, the parents even tried to persuade him to marry a girl of their choice.
However, Sunil bluntly turned down the proposal and made it categorical to his parents that he was in love with Smitha and would only marry her. Devastated, the parents even took him to the local police station for counselling. But, Sunil remained adamant about his relationship with Smitha.
The dejected parents who felt humiliated at the police station decided to kill themselves and consumed pesticides. Though they were immediately rushed to the government hospital, both passed away while undergoing treatment.
Shockingly, no case was registered in this connection. However, local people and relatives told the police that a group of transgenders close to Smitha were harassing the couple under the pretext of a loan taken by Sunil.
Family members alleged the couple killed themselves because of the harassment and humiliation meted out to them by the group of transgenders.
