A car was completely gutted after catching fire following an accident on Tuesday near the NH-16 Cuttack–Tangi Nirgundi overbridge in Odisha. The vehicle reportedly burned rapidly, leaving it entirely destroyed in the blaze. However, the family travelling in it narrowly escaped with minor injuries.

According to reports, a family from Purulia in West Bengal was travelling to Puri when the incident occurred. As they were driving, the truck ahead suddenly applied the brakes. The car rammed into the rear of the truck and subsequently caught fire. The Choudwar fire brigade arrived promptly at the scene and brought the flames under control.

Driver And Passenger Recount The Incident

Debadutta Das, who was driving the car, said, “The truck was travelling in front of us when it suddenly applied brakes, causing my car to collide with it. We were five people in the vehicle, and everyone sustained only minor injuries. I have suffered injuries to my neck as well.”

Another passenger, Priyanka Agrawal, recounted, “The vehicle in front of us suddenly applied brakes and, before we realised, our car had caught fire. We rushed out immediately. Fortunately, nothing major happened to anyone, and we were all saved.”

Police Confirm No Major Injuries

Ranjan Dora of the Choudwar Traffic Police stated, “When an unknown vehicle slowed down, this small car suddenly hit it from behind. As the engine was already heated, it caught fire. The NHAI and the Fire Department reached the spot and rescued the passengers. No one sustained any injuries, but the car was completely damaged. We will ensure their safe passage to Puri and take further steps as per law.”
