Bhubaneswar: With an aim to enhance analytical abilities among the students, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has planned to change the exam patter pattern of Class 10 and Class 12 exams from 2020.
The decision has come against the backdrop of the trend of rote learning among students and as part of a revamp that also includes holding vocational subject tests earlier and early declaration of results.
"The questions will be more in the nature of problem-solving. There will be more short questions (between 1 to 5 marks). The stress would be on probing the critical thinking abilities of students and test actual learning outcomes rather than allow students to score high marks by virtue of rote," The Times of India reported quoted a senior HRD ministry official as saying.
Besides to ensure quality of education, the Board has also reportedly submitted a new ‘CBSE bylaws’ to the HRD ministry which focuses on academic quality of an institution during affiliation/renewal of schools.
"The proposals will take another three-four months to crystallise. However, the board is already working toward the changes in the pattern of questions from 2020," the official added.
Moreover, CBSE schools, in some cities, are reportedly dropping subjects such as Moral Science and General Knowledge enabling students to devote more time towards physical education classes.
