Bhubaneswar: Amid the growing chorus for cancellation of CBSE Class 10, 12 Board examinations in view of the surge in Covid-19 cases across the country, actor Sonu Sood has now come in support of the students who are forced to appear for offline exams in these tough times.
In a video shared on his official Twitter handle, the Bollywood actor said, “I am making this request on behalf of the students who are not ready to take the Board exams amid the prevailing circumstances.”
Citing examples, the actor said that the exams were cancelled in many countries like Saudi Arabia and Mexico despite registering lesser number of Covid-19 cases.
“With the number of cases rising to 145k a day I feel there should be an internal assessment method to promote them rather than risking so many lives,” the actor said in his post.
Apart from Sonu Sood, several political leaders are also mounting pressure on the Centre and CBSE to cancel the upcoming Board exams.
Amid rising cases of Covid-19, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has asked the government to reconsider decision on conducting CBSE board exams.
In a tweet, Rahul Gandhi said, “In the light of the devastating Corona second wave, conducting #CBSE exams must be reconsidered. All stakeholders must be consulted before making sweeping decisions. On how many counts does GOI intend to play with the future of India’s youth?” he added.
On Sunday, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also wrote a letter to the Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank urging him to reconsider allowing the CBSE to conduct board exams under the prevailing COVID wave.
“Its ‘shocking’ that the CBSE has decided to go ahead with exams despite parents expressing fears and ‘apprehensions’ about assembling at exam centres in the middle of the second wave of the pandemic. These ‘apprehensions’ are not ‘Unreasonable’, so exams should be cancelled,” wrote Priyanka.
