Mayurbhanj: A youth was brutally stoned to death allegedly by his neighbours at Pata Sahi village under Sarat police limits in the district over some land dispute on Tuesday night. The deceased has been identified as Jagannath Khandual.

According to sources, Jagannath had gone to the nearby jungle to attend nature's call and entered into an altercation with his neighbours. Later, four of them allegedly barged into Jagannath's home, strangulated him and later smashed his face with a stone.

The matter came to light after Jagannath's daughter, who is said to be an eyewitness to the murder, narrated the entire incident to other family members, sources said.

"Four of our neighbours after killing my father fled the spot," alleged deceased Jaganath's daughter Dhima Khandual.

"There was past rivalry between them over a piece of land for the past few years " said villager Rama Singh.

On getting information, officials of Sarat Police station reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem.  Meanwhile, four accused have been detained basing on the complaint filed by the deceased's family.

"They were having past rivalry and the deceased had threatened them. Out of the four, two of them have confessed to the crime. Further investigation is underway" said Officer in-charge of Sarat Police Station, Naba Kishore Das.
