Kalahandi: A youth was robbed of Rs 6 lakh and killed by some masked and armed miscreants while his father, a cotton farmer sustained critical injuries in the attack in a forest near Borguda village under Junagarh Police limits of Kalahandi district on Thursday.

Reports said, one Balabhadra Nayak and his father Chitta Nayak were returning home after withdrawing money from a private bank at Bhawanipatna when three bike-borne masked miscreants opened fire at Balabhadra and Chitta and attacked them with sharp weapons near a jungle. Later, they took away the money bag from them and fled the spot.

Locals spotted the father-son lying unconscious and rushed them to Junagarh Hospital from where they were referred to Bhawanipatna Hospital.

Balabhadra, who was critically injured, died while being shifted to VIMSAR, Burla yesterday late night while Chitta is undergoing treatment at Bhawanipatna Hospital.

“We were returning home with the money from Bhawanipatna when three bike-borne miscreants stopped us midway and opened fire on us. Later, they attacked me with an iron rod and hit my son,” said the victim Chitta Nayak.

Police have seized a country-made gun from the spot and initiated a probe in connection with the incident.
