Jajpur: After being on the run for nearly a month, the prime accused involved in the brutal murder of a woman and rape of her daughter at Deuli hills in Jajpur district of Odisha has been nabbed from Kerala. The accused has been identified as Bijay Kumar Behera.

Police officials informed that Bijay had raped the girl before killing her mother on Deuli hilltop on May 2. The girl was rescued in a critical condition and a case was registered by Dharmasala Police on May 4.

According to reports, the survivor had earlier lodged a case against Bijay in November 2018 accusing him of rape. Fearing arrest, Bijay had escaped from Jajpur and was hiding in Chennai.

However, Bijay again returned to Jajpur on May 1 and along with two of his friends, Vicky and Papu, conspired to teach the girl a lesson. They went to the survivor's house and threatened her to withdraw the case.

Later, the duo abducted the girl and took her to Deuli hilltop after she refused to withdraw the case. Soon after the girl’s mother reached the spot, Bijay attacked her and raped her daughter once again.

“After rescuing the girl, we had shifted her to SCB Medical College and Hospital and her statements were recorded under section 164 of CrPC. We had earlier arrested one of the co-accused Vicky and now we have nabbed the prime accused Bijay,” said Saroj Kumar Sahoo, officer in-charge of Dharmasala Police Station.
