Woman found dead with throat slit in Jajpur; foul play by in-laws suspected

Jajpur: A 27-year-old-woman was found dead with her throat slit near her house at Gunduripada village under Binjharpur Police limits of Jajpur district today. The deceased has been identified as Reeta, wife of Digambar Dalai. After Reeta's body was found lying in a pool of blood near her house, her father Damodar Dalai filed a written complaint against Reeta's mother-in-law and sisters-in-law alleging them of killing his daughter. He further alleged that Digambar (the deceased's husband) has an extra marital affair with his sister-in-law and had been torturing Reeta.

According to sources, Reeta got married to Digambar on July 4, 2016. However, soon after her marriage, she was allegedly tortured by her mother-in-law and sisters-in-law. Moreover, Reeta's husband, who is working in Gujarat and stays there, reportedly neglected and tortured her as well.

Unable to bear the pain, Reeta had come to her paternal house at Hirapur under Mangalpur Police station of Jajpur district and was staying there.

Later, she returned to her in-law's house after the dispute was resolved at a village meeting recently.

"I had a conversation with my daughter last night around 10 PM. I dialed her number in this morning but her number was unreachable. Digambar has an affair with his sister-in-law. My son-in-law and his sister-in-law killed my daughter," alleged the deceased's father.

"The body was found lying near toilet of her house and we suspect that she was killed. A probe into the matter has been initiated. No arrest or detention has been made so far," informed Binjharpur Police Station IIC, Brajamohan Behera.
