Kendrapara: The Nikirai Police seized body of a married woman buried by her -in-laws in the village crematorium at Bandhasahi in the district on Wednesday and detained the husband of the deceased based on the allegations of murder by her family members.

According to sources, Parvati Mallick had tied the knot with one Chitrasen Mallick of the village in 2009 and the couple had a son and a daughter. However, the duo was going through a rough patch and often engaged in fights over petty issues.

Recently, Parvati was admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after she contracted some illness but even after undergoing treatment for 15 days in the hospital, she succumbed to the disease. Later, Parvati’s in-laws hastily buried her body at the village crematorium without even informing anyone let alone her family members.

However, after coming to know about the incident, Parvati's family members alleged that she was murdered by her in-laws. Parvati's brother Santanu Mallick also lodged an FIR at Nikirai Police Station.

“They have murdered and buried my sister. We are doubtful over her death and want justice for my sister,” said Parvati’s brother, Santanu.

Based on the complaint, Nikirai Police initiated a probe and seized Parvati’s body from the crematorium.

“Based on the report lodged by the brother of the deceased, we have registered a case under section-302. We have detained the husband of the deceased and further investigations are underway,” said Investigating Officer, Kabuli Mallick.
