Sundergarh: A woman sustained grievous injures after she was attacked by her neighbour on suspicion of practising witchcraft at Pampara village under Badagaon police limits of the district today.

The injured has been identified as Dukhi Bariha. As per reports, Bariha was allegedly tortured and harassed by her neighbour, Rama Barik and his family members since the last few days suspecting her to be practising witchcraft. The matter became worse when Barik and his family attacked Bariha with an axe early morning today.

Barik’s family held the woman responsible for disputes and problems in his family. They suspected that Bariha was practising witchcraft, sources said.

After the incident, Bariha was rushed to the Sundergarh District headquarters hospital where she is undergoing treatment.

“My wife has been harassed since the last few days and was attacked today by Rama’s family members over the suspicion of practising witchcraft. She received grievous injuries on her knees, chest and back,” said husband of the victim.

Four persons including Rama have been detained by police after a complaint was filed with the Badagaon police station.

Police is interrogating the detainees and further investigation is on, said sources.
