Kalahandi: The Kalahandi unit of Vigilance Department today arrested Tehsildar of Karlamunda area, Abanikanta Sahu, on bribery charges.

The Vigilance sleuths reportedly arrested Abanikanta while taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 from one Lal Saheb Sahu of Deogaon. The Tehsildar had allegedly demanded the bribe for finalising a land mutation case.

"The Tehsildar had demanded Rs 15,000 from me for our land mutation work assuring that it will be done within a week. While I was offering him Rs 10,000, he was caught red-handed by the Vigilance officials," alleged Lal Saheb.

The anti-corruption team also conducted raids at different places including office and paternal house of Abanikanta.

Speaking about Abanikanta's arrest, Kalahandi Vigilance DSP, Satyaban Mahananda, said, "The complainant had alleged that the Tehsildar was harassing him and demanded bribe to do his work. We arrested him red-handed today and conducted raids at his office and residence here. Searches were also carried out at his house in Bharatpur area of Bhubaneswar and paternal house in Sankarpur area in Dhenkanal district."
