Kendrapara: A team of Vigilance sleuths arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) today on charges of taking bribe in Kendrapara. The accused police official, Ranendra Samal, of Aul Police Station was caught red-handed by the Vigilance officials while taking a bribe of Rs 5000 from one Banambar Das of Nial village.

As per reports, Samal had demanded the bribe from Das for releasing a two wheeler from the police station. Later, Das brought the matter to the notice of Vigilance department following which the sleuths laid a trap to catch the cop red-handed.

After arresting the cop, the Vigilance team raided Aul Police Station, government quarter of the ASI and his house in Jagatsinghpur and seized several important documents, informed sources.

"Banambar Das had filed a complaint alleging that the ASI demanded bribe from him for releasing his seized vehicle. Acting on the complaint, we laid a trap and caught the official red-handed, seized the bribe amount and later arrested him," informed SDPO, Surendra Nath Ray, Vigilance department.
