Berhampur: Two wanted criminals allegedly involved in a loot incident near Khalikote on June 2 were arrested after an encounter by police near Sanaghati Chhak in Ganjam district in wee hours of Wednesday.

The duo was involved in looting three toll gate employees of Rs 25 lakh who were on their way to deposit the money in bank.

The accused identified as Sushant Pradhan and Rajesh Reddy of Visakhapatnam have received bullet injuries in their legs and have been admitted to the MKCG hospital. A car, two pistols, three live bullets and cash worth Rs.2.25 lakh have been seized from their possession, police sources said.

According to reports, police intercepted the duo near Sanaghati Chhak at around 3.30 am and nabbed them after encounter, police sources said.

Earlier on Tuesday, Chhatrapur SP Brijesh Kumar Roy in a press conference had informed that six persons have been arrested in connection with the June 2 loot incident. Around Rs 15 lakh of the stolen money has been recovered from their possession, Roy added.

With today's arrest, the total number of arrests made in the case has reach eight.

On the fateful day, around 12 pm, 5 bike-borne miscreants had intercepted employees of the Gorapalli toll plaza near Haridamula Square under Khalikote police limits and escaped with Rs 25 lakh cash.
