Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police today arrested two persons for allegedly stealing Rs 40 lakh from a cash transit van in Bhubaneswar.

Police also recovered Rs 37.69 lakh from the possession of the accused which include the driver of the van as well, informed Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Sahu in a presser today.

According to reports, four employees including the driver along with two custodians and a gunman of Radiant Cash Management Agency had left with Rs 2.58 crore in the cash transit van from the main branch of State Bank of India (SBI) to refill money in its different ATMs across the city.

“While the some officials went to replenish an ATM at Ashok Nagar, the driver stole eight bundles of cash worth Rs 40 lakh by opening the cash box with the help of a duplicate key,” stated the DCP adding that the duplicate key was also recovered from the two.

Later, the driver had given the stolen money and key to his associate after which the latter absconded, reports added.

SBI authorities had lodged a complaint following the incident at Capital Police Station.
