Teacher tied to tree, thrashed for demanding salary; video goes viral
Nayagarh: An English teacher was tied to a tree, garlanded with shoes and beaten up allegedly by the owner of a coaching centre at Kantilo in Nayagarh district.
Though the incident took place on June 5, the matter to light recently after the accused owner of the coaching center recorded the act and uploaded the clip on social media.
The teacher, a resident of Karabar village under Fategarh police limits here lodged an FIR in connection with the incident at Khandapara police station on Friday.
Based on the complaint, police have sealed the coaching centre and launched a manhunt to nab the accused Tapan Mohapatra, who is now absconding.
According to reports, the victim teacher was appointed to take English classes in Satya Sai Tutorials in Kantilo. However, even after teaching for six months, he was not paid salary despite regular requests.
Despite the teacher’s repeated demands to pay his arrears, Tapan did not pay heed following which the victim teacher left Satya Sai Tutorials and joined another coaching centre.
Irate over the incident, Tapan reportedly called the English teacher and assaulted him after tying him to a tree along with the help of some of his friends.
“The accused Tapan Mohapatra took the victim with him on a motorcycle to the riverside. Later, Tapan and some of his friends tied the teacher to a tree, abused and thrashed him,” informed Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Khandapara police station, Bimal Mallick.
Mallick further informed that raids have been conducted in various places to nab Tapan, who is absconding after the incident.
