Berhampur: Irate after being spurned, a youth hacked his lover's brother in Brahmanipali area of Ganjam district following which he was arrested by police today.

According to sources, Lingaraj Sethi was in love with a girl from Gurunthi. However, the girl turned him down. Consumed by rage following rejection, the youth allegedly kidnapped the younger brother of the girl identified as Viku Sethi and killed him after slitting his throat. He later dumped the boy's body inside a mango orchard near the village, informed sources.

After the family members of the girl could not trace the 13-year-old Viku, they lodged a missing complaint at the local police station. The cops traced the body of Viku on December 9. After investigation, police establised the involvement of Lingaraj. Since the accused had gone into hiding after the incident, police could not question him.

On Wednesday, police received a tip off on Lingaraj’s arrival in the village and immediately arrested him. The accused later pleaded guilty.

“Our uncle’s family resides in Gurunthi and I fell in love with a girl of the village since I used to stay there often. But after she rejected my proposal I killed her brother,” said accused Lingaraj.

"The accused had taken the boy from Gurunthi to Chhatrapur on December 6 and later he killed him and dumped his body inside the forest,” said Berhampur ASP, Santanu Das.
